2021 Dodge Journey Redesign, Specs, & Pictures

2021 Dodge Journey Redesign, Specs, & Pictures. Do not let the low price fool you. The current Dodge Journey is a midsize crossover SUV you would want to skip. There are plenty of other models way better than this one. The more important thing is the new 2022 Dodge Journey, which is about to launch the new generation. That means a lot of changes and upgrades, after a season where we saw more cuts than improvements. One of the models fans would like to see is the SRT. Jeep Grand Cherokee is not using this badge anymore, meaning the model remains an exclusive version of Dodge family.

The company is not announcing details on this crossover SUV, which is not as popular as its siblings. Jeep Grand Cherokee is the best-seller in the mid-size class, while Durango is still ahead of a two-row model. The new 2022 Dodge Journey must do something spectacular to get back on the map. Still, the FCA needs it to compete with the likes of Nissan Murano, Ford Edge, or Honda Passport. The lack of the third row is not a huge downside since last two seats are usually cramped on SUVs offering them.

New Engines 2022 Dodge Journey

Such a big SUV and such a small engine. With only 173 hp, a four-pot is not making the 2022 Dodge Journey a serious competitor. If the company has asked fans, they would rather saw this one out and kept a V6. As an optional motor, a 2.4-liter Tigershark unit could serve. Small, it didn’t bring excellent fuel economy numbers. Well, 21 mpg is also caused by the weight of the midsize model.

We are sure a 3.6-liter V6 will be back next season. The Pentastar engine is creating more power– 283 ponies, and torque– 260 lb-ft. A fuel economy rating is at the same level as for the four-cylinder, so it is very strange why the company cut this one instead of a smaller powertrain. An eight-speed automatic gearbox is the most likely transmission, while the V6 is going to offer both two- and four-wheel drive.

SRT and Hybrid Models

The upcoming generation of the vehicle needs to bring something special to improve the chances in the market. Fans have their wishes and some rumors are claiming that new 2022 Dodge Journey SRT might be a solution. This is a performance-oriented version with extra power. Still, we don’t know what kind of an engine it could use. A 6.4-liter V8 is definitely not an option. This one is reserved for Dodge Durango SRT and Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. Instead, engineers could turbocharge either 3.2 or 3.6 V6. This can create enough power to be competitive with high-output versions of other mid-size SUVs.

Fans want this badge on the new 2022 Dodge Journey

Speaking of rivalry, the FCA needs a hybrid engine. Toyota is already planning the plug-in version of its Highlander. Ford Explorer Hybrid is out, and we expect more arrivals. Not only that the new 2022 Dodge Journey needs such source of power, but also its siblings.

The first reason is improving the poor fuel economy. With only 21 mpg both with four-cylinder or V6, this vehicle can not be competitive. If hybrid enhances the efficiency, then buyers will pay more attention to Journey SUV. Plus, there is the emission rating. With a greener source of power, the future of this nameplate is guaranteed.

Otherwise, even the new generation and all the upgrades won’t help this brand survive in the tough market. Outside the US, this vehicle is re-branded as Fiat Freemont. The Italian carmaker is still growing, but the latest moves promise a lot of fun.

Interior

The company cut two trim levels for the 2020 YM. The goal was the new generation, which can not appear in only two versions. Still, it is certain that the 2022 Dodge Journey will carry over the SE and Crossroad. The FCA is probably going to deliver the latest generation of the Uconnect infotainment system. Tri-zone climate control and larger screens are optional upgrades.

2022 Dodge Journey Redesign

The new 2022 Dodge Journey needs a fresh look desperately. On the other hand, we are sure the carmaker will keep some of its classic details, such as cross-grille. Still, Dodge could make a radical cut and bring something surprising to shake the market.

The upcoming Journey SUV might be slightly smaller than its predecessor. It will improve agility and fuel economy. Plus, materials such as aluminum and carbon fiber will make the 2022 Dodge Journey lighter and more efficient. Still, the return of a V6 engine or turbo-four will boost the power outputs but harm the fuel economy. A 190-inch long vehicle will be pretty spacious for all five occupants. Some smaller vehicles are trying to fit the third row, but it is not going to happen with the new Journey. If you want a Dodge with such configuration, there is Durango.
