2021 KIA Niro Lineup Specs, Price, Photos, & Details

2021 KIA Niro Lineup Specs, Price, Photos, & Details. The 2021 KIA Niro will be one of the greenest vehicles in the market. It is also one of the most efficient subcompact crossovers with more than 50 mpg returned by the hybrid version. Well, not too many companies are into this segment. Kia is taking advantage of this lack of rivals. Not only that hybrid engine is available, but also the plug-in version. The cleanest source of power is Niro EV. For the next season, it will even get a longer range.

There are a few rivals, including Kia’s partner, Hyundai. Kona is their electric crossover. The next season is bringing premium Volvo XC40 Recharge. The vehicle is 170 inches long and the wheelbase is 106 inches. Weight of the new 2021 KIA Niro will depend on the equipment.

The base version will be around 3,100 pounds, while the electric model adds more than 750 lbs. The handling is still great thanks to the size. The subcompact crossover is perfect for city driving and the parking is a lot easier.

2021 KIA Niro Hybrid

A 1.6-liter petrol engine is the base for a hybrid configuration. A 1.56-kWh battery is boosting the power outputs and the gas mileage. The new Niro can count on 140 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. A fuel economy is exceptional with 52 mpg of maximum range with the LX package. On highway, the rate drops to 49 mpg. Selecting the Touring trim with more options will make the vehicle heavier and it consumes more fuel– 43 mpg. This is a huge cut for the same drive system that sends power through a six-speed automatic drivetrain to front wheels.

Plug-In System

The centerpiece of the 2021 KIA Niro PHEV is a 1.6-liter Atkinson cycle four-cylinder petrol unit. In this case, the plug-in system will include a larger battery. A 44-kWh motor will increase the power output with 60 hp coming from this source. The base drivetrain also creates 105 hp and 109 lb-ft of torque.

The gas mileage is lower than for the standard hybrid, since the larger battery is also heavier. The PHEV returns 45 mpg combined, but it is also able to run on the electric energy solely. It covers 26 miles, which should be enough until the next gas station.

2021 KIA Niro EV

The last stage of evolution is the all-electric model. Of course, this version will use the largest battery. The company is not changing the 64-kWh li-ion pack for the 2021 YM. The electric motor can produce 200 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of twist. The range is 239 miles. Soon, Kia will have to update the drivetrain since there are more competitors on the way with more than 250 miles in a single charge.

The next Niro is going to deliver closer to 300 miles. DC Charger needs 75 minutes for 80-percent recharge. By using a home outlet, the car will need 59 hours. You can purchase a 220 V system, which will speed up the process and cut time to 9 hours.

Equipment

The 2021 KIA Niro Hybrid will offer at least four trim levels. The base package is LX, a mid-range offer includes LXS and Touring versions, while top of the class EX is also available for EV and PHEV drivetrains. It is still questionable if the Special Edition for Touring model is going to feature next season.

Keyless-entry and push-start are standard, as well as an 8-inch multimedia screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Upper trim levels will make the touchscreen grow to 10 inches. Automatic emergency braking is already available at the LXS trim. The system will recognize cyclists and pedestrians. The entry-level self-driving package also comes with lane-keep assist and blind-spot monitor.

Still, Kia leaves some options for an additional purchase, including adaptive cruise control and lane-follow support. Some top features are standard for Touring and EX packages. Harman Kardon sound system, navigation, LED lights, large wheels, wireless charging, ventilated leather seats, are some of the most notable upgrades coming with the most expensive offers.

2021 KIA Niro Prices

The base value of the 2021 Niro will be the same as before. The redesign will push the price up. Next season, it will be $25,000. Heavily-loaded EX premium with hybrid engine is $33,000. If you build it up with the plug-in system, it increases the price by $3,500. Buyers are going to be eligible for the tax credit.

You can get a $4,500 discount for PHEV and all-electric versions. The 2021 KIA Niro EV will be just under $40k, but the tax credit is $7,500. On the other hand, you will have to add about $1,000 for destination. Fully-loaded electric crossover will be around $45,000.
