2022 Chevy Equinox RS, Redesign, Specs, Prices. We saw the 2022 Chevy Equinox right before the coronavirus caused a big holdup. Fans still hope to see the new model at the dealership next season, but it seems the company is going to move the launching date for 2022. They know what will the upcoming compact crossover looks like and what does it bring. One of the major additions is the new RS trim. Well, we expect even more. To be more competitive, the Equinox is going to need a hybrid drivetrain. On the other hand, even without such configuration, GM managed to sell 350,000 units in 2019.
General Motors has a new moto– “Our electric future is now”. There are the first concepts available. Cadillac Lyriq is the premium SUV, while the company is also going to bring back the Hummer. The legendary nameplate is becoming the electric truck. In the compact segment, GM will enlarge Bolt and make it a small crossover. Equinox now has another rival within the company– Trailblazer. Smaller, it will take away some buyers from the compact crossover. The complete electrification is the shocking therapy which can draw more attention and increase sales.

Engines (Hybrid, EV)
The new RS trim level is not going to upgrade the engine lineup for the 2022 Chevy Equinox. The crossover still offers a couple of turbocharged units. The base solution is a 170-hp rated 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. It also creates 205 lb-ft of torque and returns 26/31 mpg, which makes Equinox one of the most efficient models in the class. Still, this is cool if you are happy with outputs under 200 ponies. All-wheel drive is optional and this configuration is going to consume more fuel.
A 2.0-liter turbo-four is the choice with more power. In this case, buyers will get 250 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. This one is also efficient, returning 22/29 mpg with FWD, and one point down with AWD. Both engines are mated to a six-speed gearbox. Well, we expected a replacement, but the start/stop system will improve the gas mileage. The more powerful setup will make the 2022 Chevy Equinox sprint 0-60 mph in less than 7 seconds. Not too many crossovers can beat the clock at that time.
Optionally, we expect the hybrid unit to come and surprise the enthusiasts. Well, Equinox is already late with such a configuration. Toyota Rav4 and Ford Escape are taking advantage at the market. We know the GM is finally developing an electric unit and the compact crossover might be available with a kind of the EV unit, at least a hybrid one. In the future, we will definitely see the all-electric model.
2022 Chevy Equinox Redesign
The new 2022 Chevy Equinox was presented at the latest Chicago Auto Show. The vehicle is the second best-selling model in the family and it was ready for the mid-cycle update. We will have to wait a bit more to see it out. On the other hand, at least we know what is coming.
The new Equinox updated exterior and interior. The level of redesign is not big enough to start the new generation. It will probably happen when the all-electric motor joins the lineup in 2023 or 2024. The carmaker introduced a few assist features and other options are reshuffled across the lineup. Plus, the RS is a new member of the squad for 2022 Equinox. The base model is now more aggressive thanks to the revisit of front and rear fascias.
The 2022 Chevy Equinox RS is introducing a darker theme, with special grille, wheels, and badges. We can find the inspiration for this package on the new Camaro. The RS will separate headlights and DRLs, which makes it even more appealing. The rear fascia is also more aggressive thanks to the updated styling of taillights and exhaust tips. Not only the RS is bringing novelties, but also the Premier package. Now, it is available with 19-inch machined wheels and special stitching inside the premium cabin.
2022 Chevy Equinox Colors
The base trim of the 2022 Chevy Equinox will offer only two colors for exterior and one combination for the cabin. Climbing up the trim level hierarchy buyer will find more options. Currently, there are seven standard choices and three premium paintjobs for the Premier edition. The new model will update the palette with a few more options. All the base choices are metallic, while Cayenne Orange, Cajun Red, and Iridescent Pearl are the special upgrades. Even the interior is coming with different themes. These options will depend on a trim level and the upholstery material. We also expect special paints for the Equinox RS.
2022 Chevy Equinox Prices
After the revisit, we can expect new prices of the 2022 Equinox. The MSRP of the base version should remain the same (just under $25,000 with the FWD and 1.5 engine). Still, every upgrade will cost pretty expensive. A 2.0 mill is available from the LT package and the configuration with AWD will start near $35,000. The price of the 2022 Chevy Equinox RS is not unveiled.
