2022 Ford Maverick Compact Pickup: Redesign, Price, and Specs. The upcoming 2022 Ford Maverick is still not official but the latest reports are strongly confirming this model. It is a small pickup truck, and even Ford’s president of global markets confirmed this. He said the company is working on introducing new nameplates below where the brand competes today, referring to the full-size and mid-size segments. Ford lacks a compact pickup truck in its respective lineup.
The idea started two years ago when Ford was interested in transforming Focus Wagon into a unibody pickup. Today, that seems to be a very likely outcome. Maverick is the name we’ve seen on some leaked images and documents. Ford is silent on this topic and Blue Oval claims the name is yet to be announced.

Two Powertrain Options
Codenamed P758, the 2022 Ford Maverick will most likely share its drivetrains with Bronco Sport and Escape models. That includes a 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged outputs. The power will go through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Both engines should be more than capable to power compact truck such as Maverick. The first option delivers 181 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque.
The second and larger EcoBoost engine provides up to 250 horsepower. Escape’s hybrid system is unlikely for this model and we don’t expect any sort of electrification. This engine lineup makes perfect sense, especially if we know the underpinnings are shared with Bronco Sport SUV.
2022 Maverick Based on the Bronco Sport
The story about the “Maverick” name started after one photo leaked online. In this photo, you can see a tailgate with MAVERICK stamped under the handle. Previously, many reports wrote about this pickup as the new “Baby Bronco.” That will not happen. The 2022 Ford Maverick will share some cues with the Bronco and Bronco Sport SUVs.
For a start, the compact unibody pickup truck will be a Bronco-based model. This model will look very unique. On the other hand, don’t expect any off-road characteristics or a very aggressive design. We don’t know that much about its design yet, but oval-shaped headlights and similar Wrangler-like cues will be in the offer.
Interior is More Escape-Like
No interior details are available at the moment. We will at least like to write our opinion about 2022 Ford Maverick. On the inside, Maverick will surely mimic the Escape crossover. That includes a recognizable floating center screen and the same dials.
Even the position of these dials could be the same. On the other hand, Maverick won’t be so upright and luxurious as the Escape crossover. The Maverick pickup truck will arrive with a new rotary transmission selector.
2022 Ford Maverick Release Date and Price
Here’s the interesting part. The 2022 Ford Maverick will start under $20,000. Many reports suggested that the Maverick will represent some sort of sub-Ranger alternative so the price is affordable. This pickup truck could firstly go on sale in Brazil.
The sales will start at some point next year. The rumor about August 2021 seems to make perfect sense to us. Both Volkswagen and Hyundai are developing compact unibody pickups for the American continent.
